This course provides students with the ability to analyse and record accounting transactions, leading to the preparation of financial statements (income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statements). Students are introduced to the analysis and interpretation of financial statements, where they are required to calculate and interpret key financial ratios, in order to gain insight into key aspects of, and make recommendations about, an entity's performance. Students are also introduced to the use of accounting software.

ACCT1110 operates under the assumption that students do not have a background in acccounting orᅠprior accounting knowledge.

Aims and outcomes

This course aimsᅠto provide students with the skills to prepare, understand and analyse financial reports (assuming no prior knowledge of accounting).ᅠ To ensure that this outcome is realised, accounting software and financial statements are used extensively in the classroom to illustrate and extend each topic.

Task description

  • This assignment is an individual assignment based on topics 1 and 2. 
  • It consists of practical accounting questions that provide an exercise in recording a variety of business transactions common to businesses.
  • It is a take home assignment that will be released in Week 2 and is to be submitted via Turnitin. 
  • Further information will be available on Blackboard in Week 2.

Task description

  • This exam is a closed book, invigilated exam.
  • It will be based on topics 3-6.  
  • The exam will consist of multiple choice questions and practical problem solving questions.
  • In preparation for the exam, you should review all the relevant online workbooks, textbook chapters, lecture and tutorial materials.
  • The in-semester exam takes place during the Saturday in-semester exam period and will be held on Saturday 23 March, 13 April or 20 April. The exam date will be confirmed when the in-semester exam timetable is released.

Any issues regarding the administration, timetabling and non-attendance of examinations must be directed to the University of Queensland Examinations Section. These issues are not the responsibility of the Course Coordinator.
