Acquire professional practice skills through an introduction to professional behaviour, and working with and advocating for the needs of diverse communities in audiological settings.
This course provides students with fundamental knowledge of professional behavior and communication, person- and family-centred care and needs of special populations for clinical audiology within Australian health care systems.

Aims and outcomes
This course aims to enable you to:
• Recognise the basic requirements of professional behaviour and communication for audiological practice.
• Understand Australian healthcare systems in relation to audiology.
• Explain the importance of person- and family-centred care.
• Identify barriers and facilitators for access to hearing health care and advocate for the needs of people from diverse backgrounds.
Learning outcomes
After successfully completing this course you should be able to:
LO1.
Identify the foundational professional behaviour, communication, and collaboration requirements of audiological practice, reflect on personal strengths and areas of development, and engage with feedback to ensure continuous improvement.
LO2.
Adapt communication to meet the specific needs of each client, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and those from other culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
LO3.
Consider the culture and communication preferences of the Deaf community and identifies the need for an interpreter, where appropriate.
LO4.
Explain the importance of person- and family-centred practices for the provision of effective audiological care.
LO5.
Describe the workings of the Australian healthcare system (e.g., NDIS), including the range of professional roles in health-related settings.
LO6.
Identify barriers that can impede or prevent access to services and resources by those with ear, hearing, and associated conditions; and strategies to advocate for and partner with people within these communities.
LO7.
Identify strategies for raising the awareness of the communication needs of those who have, or are at risk of developing, ear, hearing, and associated conditions.

Task description
A non-invigilated online quiz on professional conduct.
- Students can complete the quiz at any time during the two-week period stipulated in the assessment section of the course blackboard site.
- Once the quiz is started, students will have 60 minutes to complete it.
Hurdle requirements
For students who do not do the online quiz by the submission deadline or who fail the quiz, they will be given a second opportunity to pass by completing a reflective essay on the material related to learning outcome 1 assessed by the quiz. If this is task is successfully completed, a grade will be awarded based on the remaining assessment in the course.Submission guidelines

Students will work in small groups to develop a plan to advocate for people with hearing problems, including background, rationale and design. This plan entails a written report and a presentation. Further details will be made available on the AUDL7112 Blackboard site.

Additional course grading information
IMPORTANT NOTE:ᅠThis assessment task evaluates students' abilities, skills and knowledge without the aid of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Students are advised that the use of AI technologies to develop responses is strictly prohibited and may constitute student misconduct under the Student Code of Conduct.
Final marks falling between whole percentages will be rounded to the nearest whole percentage. Tie-breaking will be conducted using the round half up method whereby half-way values are always rounded up, meaning, for example, that 89.5% and above will be rounded to 90% and 89.49% and below will be rounded down to 89%.
'MUST PASS' assessment. Students must pass the pass/fail quiz on professional conduct.ᅠStudents who pass the quiz will receive a course grade based on the remaining assessment in the course.
For students who do not do the online quiz by the submission deadline or who fail the quiz, they will be given a second opportunity to pass by completing a reflective essay on the material related to learning outcome 1 assessed by the quiz. If this is task is successfully completed, a grade will be awarded based on the remaining assessment in the course.
