Aims and outcomes
This course aims to enable students to:
• Gain clinical skills in the basic audiological management of non-complex adult cases.
• Assess the hearing and communication needs of adult cases, followed by joint goal-setting and decision making.
• Provide clients with basic counselling and communication strategies.
• Select and fit appropriate amplification devices for non-complex adult cases.
• Verify the functionality of amplification devices for adult cases.
• Assess management program outcomes for adult cases.
• Identify other rehabilitation options such as implantable and assistive listening devices for adult cases, including those with tinnitus and profound hearing loss.
Learning outcomes
After successfully completing this course you should be able to:
LO1.
Using a client- and family-centred approach to audiological rehabilitation, determine goals, expectations and/or needs, provide recommendations that support informed decision making, implement and appropriately modify hearing aid intervention, and evaluate client outcomes using client reported and/or objective measures.
LO2.
Synthesise information from a range of sources to develop recommendations for intervention, including audiological therapy, hearing conservation, technology modifications to the environment, and/or further referrals in line with the non-complex client’s goals and needs.
LO3.
In the context of audiological rehabilitation, critically analyse and integrate data using knowledge, skill, and judgement, taking into account the reliability of testing.
LO4.
Explain the importance of planning and implementing strategies to improve clinical practice and regularly reflecting to improve clinical performance, seeking guidance when required.
LO5.
Comply with relevant guidelines, policy and procedures, standards, and legal obligations in a clinical setting and apply privacy, consent, and confidentiality principles to information sharing.

Task description
This quiz will test your understanding of the course content from teaching weeks 1 to 4. The quiz will consist of multiple choice questions only and be administered and completed via the course UQ.Learn/Blackboard site. Students will complete the quiz during lecture time. Further details will be provided on the Blackboard site.
Submission guidelines
The open book, online quiz will consist of 15 multiple choice questions. Students will be given O minutes perusal time and 45 minutes exam time. Acess to the quiz will stop at 13.00 and the answers submitted as your final answers.

Task description
The OSCE will be held during the formal examination period. Please refer to the roster document on the course UQ.Learn Blackboard site for the exact time of your OSCE.
Assessments will be conducted in the Audiology Clinic, Level 7, Therapies Building, UQ, St. Lucia campus.
Students will rotate through a series of independent test stations. Each station will assess a specific rehabiluitative audiology activity. Activities to be completed at each station may involve a combination of practical, oral, and written tasks. Further information about the OSCE will be provided on the course site and during lectures.
The OSCE is a 'must pass' assessment - it must bepassed in order to achieve an overall passing grade in this course.

Practicals and independent practice sessions Group practicals will be scheduled as part of the lecture series. Additionally, students will be able to book 2-hour independent practice sessions in the UQ Audiology Clinic rooms to practice defined rehabilitative audiology tasks and activities. The booking roster will be available via the course UQ.Learn/Blackboard site. Students will also have the ability to engage in home practice of hearing aid programming by utilising the relevant hearing aid programming software which will be made available.
