This course involves intensive full-day class attendance in Weeks 1-7, as well as independent task practice throughout the semester.
Aims and outcomes
This course aims to enable students to:
• Gain clinical skills in the advanced audiological management of adult cases.
• Select advanced hearing device features for adult cases.
• Identify other rehabilitation options such as implantable and assistive listening devices for adult cases, including those with tinnitus and profound hearing loss.
Learning outcomes
After successfully completing this course you should be able to:
LO1.
Synthesise information from a range of sources to develop recommendations for audiological rehabilitation intervention including audiological therapy, technology modifications to the environment, and/or further referrals in line with the client’s goals and needs.
LO2.
Generate accurate and complete reports, case notes, and other forms of communication that conform with medical and legal requirements.
LO3.
Explain the importance of planning and implementing strategies to improve clinical practice and regularly reflect to improve clinical performance, seeking guidance when required.
LO4.
Display professional, empathetic, and respectful verbal and non-verbal communication that is inclusive and tailored to the listener/reader.
LO5.
Collaborate with clients, significant others, professionals, and organisations to achieve the best outcomes for the client and appropriately apply privacy, consent, and confidentiality principles to information sharing.
LO6.
Ensure all own interactions with clients, other professionals, and the public are respectful, maintain the integrity of the Audiology profession, and comply with the Code of Conduct for Audiology Australia.
LO7.
Comply with relevant guidelines, policy and procedures, standards, and legal obligations in a clinical setting.
LO8.
Practise audiology within scope of practice, capability and experience, and refer to/consult with other professionals when encountering issues outside of scope of practice.

Lecture series During the intensive teaching weeks (1-7), every AUDL7211 morning session will provide a lecture on specific rehabilitative audiology topics, such as advanced hearing aid features; teleaudiology; managing severe-to-profound hearing loss; tinnitus; implantable technologies; advanced counselling. Lecture content and discussion will also support students' independent practice and clinical placements, and the clinical exam at the end of the semester. Workshop |
Practical workshops Teaching week 1 will involve a full-class rehabilitative audiology sim clinic. During weeks 2-7, students will work in smaller groups to continue with workshops which include: rehabilitative audiology sim clinics, practical considerations in rehabilitative audiology, and hearing aid programming.
