Introduction to theory and practice in the field of aural rehabilitation, with particular emphasis on adults with acquired hearing impairment.
The purpose of this course is to prepare students for professional practice in the field of rehabilitative audiology, serving adults who have acquired hearing loss. This course addresses conceptual frameworks underpinning aural rehabilitation, the psychosocial impact of hearing loss, evaluation of the effects of hearing loss and communication needs analyses, candidacy for fitting of amplification devices, the principles and practices underlying hearing aid selection and fitting, measurement of hearing aid performance, verification of the outcomes of hearing aid fitting, and also introduces implantable devices.

Aims and outcomes
- To begin building a comprehensive knowledge of the global effects of an acquired hearing loss on an individual's daily life.
- To obtain a basic understanding of the aural rehabilitation process for adults with acquired hearing loss, including but not limited to hearing aid prescription, fitting, and verification.

Identify potential candidates for aural rehabilitation with recognition of factors that may influence success

Demonstrate an introductory understanding of hearing aid programming, including prescriptive methods

Select appropriate earpiece/acoustic coupling features for adults and produce earmould impressions of a manufacturable quality

Task description
Students will be required to complete an overview of 12 features contained in currently available hearing aids by completing a template form located on the AUDL7823 Blackboard website (see Assessment section). The overview will address: Industry name of feature, hearing aid brand and model, technical description of feature, layperson's description of feature, your interpretation of feature, and recommended population. You may choose ANY 12 features currently available in the hearing aid market. Further, they should not all be from the same brand or model. A minimum of 4 brands is required. Choose features that you are interested in learning more about.
Task requirements: Complete the template form in full. Do not alter the template form in structure, style, or font settings. References should be submitted on a separate page in APA 7th ed. format. No word limit.

Task description
This written examination will address all content presented in weeks 1-13 of the course. It will consist of short answer and case-based questions. Examples of cases are presented within lectures. Students are advised to seek and review similar examinations in this course from the UQ Library collections.

Final marks falling between whole percentages will be rounded to the nearest whole percentage. Tie-breaking will be conducted using the round half up method whereby half-way values are always rounded up, meaning, for example, that 89.5% and above will be rounded to 90% and 89.49% and below will be rounded down to 89%.
IMPORTANT NOTE: This course contains a ‘must pass’ assessment item, as follows: Final Examination.ᅠYou must pass thisᅠ item ᅠto pass this course overall, i.e., even if your final percentage mark is 55% or higher the individual ‘must pass’ assessment item ᅠmust have been passed.

In this course, the HA Review Assignment is eligible for consideration of the resubmissionᅠ option if the assessment item was submittedᅠ on time.
After resubmission, the maximum result is a pass mark for that assessment component. Students who are granted a resubmissionᅠ for an assessment item and do not submit by ᅠthe scheduled date will not be permitted to reschedule the assessment.
