To ensure successful completion, information systems projects require careful planning, analysis and management. This course introduces students to core project management principles. The course provides students with knowledge and skills in defining project scope, estimating risks, identifying stakeholders, understanding human and organisational factors, project leadership, and project controlling/management.

This new course blends hand-on, collaborative workshops sessions with modern online learning materials to explore the essentials of managing information systems projects.

Students take on the role of a project manager through authentic learning experiences that simulate real-world project management processes and practices, leveraging a variety of AI-powered platforms. As a newly developed course, student feedback will shape its evolution.

Task description

The assessment requires students to develop a project brief based on a case study. To create the brief, students must first identify a problem within the case study and propose a solution. The proposed solution must outline how an information system can be developed (or enhanced) to address the identified problem. The brief must include a number of sections, as outlined in the detailed task description on the Blackboard Course Site.

AI Statement:

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Translation (MT) are emerging tools that may support students in completing this assessment task. Students may appropriately use AI and/or MT in completing this assessment task. Students must clearly reference any use of AI or MT in each instance.

A failure to reference generative AI or MT use may constitute student misconduct under the Student Code of Conduct.

Submission guidelines

Task description

In this group assessment, you will collaborate with your peers to develop a comprehensive and high-quality Project Management Plan based on the case study “Commonwealth Shakespeare Company: To Be, or Not to Be, Digital is the Question.” The task is divided into two parts: Part 1 is creating the plan and Part 2 is presenting it with a recorded video.

As a group, you will need to select one project relating to the case study and develop various project artefacts such as schedules, budgets, reports, and dashboards. Students should draw upon their individual project briefs to assist with the selection of their group project.

The assessment emphasises the importance of teamwork in creating and effectively communicating best practice project deliverables. This involves coordinating with your team members, sharing responsibilities, and presenting your project management plan clearly and professionally.

The presentation is to be recorded and submitted at the same time as the Project Management Plan via Blackboard.
