Task description

Assessment task takes the form of cavity preparation tasks using instrumentation and the LearnaPrep block, and self-assessment of performance to demonstrate acquisition of manual dexterity, handpiece handling, fine motor control, safe practice and reflective practice skills. The practical is conducted in Pre-clinical Laboratory 1 Room 5301 during the designated class.

Unassisted by supervisors, students have ninety (90) minutes to complete, two (2) preparations in their LearnaPrep blocks according to supplied specifications, while demonstrating a consistently high standard of laboratory PPE compliance, handpiece control, and safe operations. They must then evaluate their peers completed work.

Students will have had opportunities to practise cavity preparation techniques and self-evaluation and will have received feedback for performance improvement during prior formative training sessions scheduled in the Simulation Pre-clinic practical learning activities.

Submission guidelines

After 90 minutes allowed to complete the specified preparations and to self-assess those preparations, students leave the venue while examiners evaluate the work presented. When marking is completed, students may seek individual feedback on their performance from examiners when they collect their LearnaPrep blocks, and will be able to compare their self-assessment with that of the examiners.
