Interprofessional Collaborative Practice Modules (Thursday/ Friday) (Tutorials):

You will work in small teams in the tutorial groups with your peers from; Dentistry, Exercise Physiology, Midwifery, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Social Work and Speech Pathology. There are three modules that consist of on-line preparation and face-to-face in class learning activities. You will work in your team to engage in a range of learning activities to develop your knowledge and skills to help prepare you for working in teams when caring for clients.

In Module Four, you will develop knowledge and skills to identify and manage conflict in healthcare teams.

In Modules Five and Six you will expand your skills to communicate assertively in your team and advocate for your client applying your interprofessional practice skills.

Pass/Fail, MUST Pass

Please refer to the assessment information on Learn.UQ for the assessment due date for your team. This is a team assessment. Teams will be assigned during your first tutorial. There are two (2) parts to this assessment:

Part One requires you to complete a poster and will draw on the online and face-to-face content from Modules 4 and 5 and the knowledge and skills you developed from Modules 1 to 3. You will present your poster for peer feedback in Module 6.

Part Two involves creating a 3-minute video and will draw on the online and face-to-face content from Modules 4, 5 and 6 and the knowledge and skills you developed from Modules 1 to 3.

You will have the opportunity to begin work on each part of the assessment with your team during tutorials and will be expected to spend additional time with your team to complete each task.

Teams will need to submit both parts of your assessment in the Assessment tab on the IPCP Learn.UQ course site. Additional information regarding submission will be provided on the IPCP Learn.UQ course site.

Please refer to the assessment information on Learn.UQ for further details and requirements for the assessment.

Submission

Online submission via Blackboard.

The IPCP module is a Pass/Fail assessment task. Students who pass the module will receive a course grade based on the remaining assessment in the course.

Hurdle requirements

• For students who engage with the module, participate in the group work and submit a genuine attempt but do not achieve a pass grade for their submitted work, there will be given a second opportunity to pass the module by completing a reflective essay. If this is task is successfully completed, a grade will be awarded based on the remaining assessment in the course. • Students who do not engage with the module, fail to participate in the group work, or do not submit a genuine attempt, will be given an opportunity to complete a 5,000 word assignment on teamwork. Successful completion of this assignment will enable to be eligible to pass the course with a maximum grade of 4 (if the remaining assessment in the course would result in a grade higher than 4, a maximum grade of 4 will be awarded). • Students who fail the module who do not complete either the reflective essay nor the teamwork assignment will be awarded a maximum grade of 3 (if the remaining assessment in the course would result in a grade higher than 3, a maximum grade of 3 will be awarded).

Task description

Assessment of the clinical practice performance will be by the Course Coordinator, in discussion with the clinical supervisory team (MNHHS Oral Health Centre and external Qld Health clinics). This is based on student's performance and the quality of the critical self-reflections following each session, during the assessment period.

The assessment of Clinical Practice Performance is composed of the following components:

  1. Daily sign off form completed for each clinical session and a weekly reflection action plan
  2. Mid-Semester Portfolio Review and 3 Case Learning Summaries
  3. End-Semester Portfolio Review and 3 Case Learning Summaries

Each component MUST be approved (PASS) in order to PASS the Clinical Practice Performance. The submitted portfolio must be COMPLETE in all the following respects:

  • Students must complete the ePAD portfolio for all clinical, observational and assisting sessions.
  • When completing the record, students should complete the details in the form for patient case notes and treatment type including supervisor performance assessment and feedback.
  • If supervisors have not provided written feedback, but have provided verbal feedback, students should record this feedback in the ePAD and contact the supervisor to sign off on the statements. If there was no feedback either written or verbal provided, students must actively seek advice after the session and record as mentioned for verbal comments, followed by a sign off by the supervisor.
  • Students must endeavour to improve professional practice, continuously.
  • Students must ensure each daily sheet is signed off by their clinical supervisor at the end of each session (am/pm).
  • Students must write and submit a short weekly reflection on their clinical performance following the SEAL (Situation, Effect, Action, Learning) template provided.
  • Student must complete and submit a ISOH treatment Report and a Missing Treatment Item Report at the mid-semester and end of semester portfolio review stage. This is uploaded into the ePAD.
  • There must be NO outstanding missing information within ISOH or the relevant patient management system being used.
  • ePAD portfolios can be audited randomly at anytime by the course coordinator to verify authenticity of assessment and signatures of supervisor.
  • ePAD portfolios are not to be misused; this includes but is not limited to adjusting comments or scores. The portfolio record forms a part of the summative clinical performance assessment and are the property of the UQ School of Dentistry. Such actions would constitute attempting to cheat on an assessment task. If it is believed that a student has interfered in any way with a logbook, disciplinary action for academic misconduct action will be taken.
  • Students must have all components of the portfolio completed and signed off by supervisors.
  • This is a MUST PASS assessment item.
  • If any of the above is not completed to a satisfactory standard, it will be deemed a fail grade for this assessment item.

Criteria & Marking:

* In accordance with PPL 3.10.02, supplementary assessment will NOT be available for Clinical Practice Performance (portfolio) as professional competencies are developed over a 18-week practicum. There is no resubmission or resit option available for this assessment.

The practical clinical portfolio will be reviewed and performance in each domain considered and used to complete a report of overall performance in each domain. Assessment of the portfolio will occur at two time points during semester, mid-semester and at the end of the semester, and the assessment will be done by the clinical teaching team including the course coordinator. This is based on student's performance and the quality of the weekly critical self-reflections following each session/day, during the assessment period from the interim time point to the submission of this assessment task. Additionally, the effort made by the student to take on board the mid-semester review feedback will be considered while this report is being finalised.

Four domains will be assessed to an expectations met (satisfactory), developing or not met standard (unsatisfactory) and mapped to the Professional competency requirements for the accreditation body for this program - The Australian Dental Council (Professional Competencies of the newly Qualified Dentist)

The domains being assessed are:

  • Professionalism, Communication and Health Promotion
  • Scientific knowledge and Clinical Information Gathering
  • Critical Thinking, Diagnosis and Management Planning
  • Clinical Treatment and Evaluation

To pass this assessment, students must achieve a pass on the FINAL end of semester portfolio review.

This is a SUMMATIVE MUST PASS assessment on clinical performance progress at this stage.

To achieve a pass, the criteria are as follows:

  • All domains are weighted equally, and student must achieve a pass in each domain, and an overall pass.
  • A pass in each domain will involve a student receiving 2 or less "expectations not met" (ENM) mark in Domain 1, and 1 or less "expectation not met" (ENM) in Domains 2-4.
  • An overall pass for the report will involve a student receiving 4 or less "expectations not met" (ENM) mark across the 4 domains.

There is an opportunity for feedback and improvement when the mid-semester portfolio review is provided to students, and students must reflect on this feedback provided to improve their clinical performance in the latter part of the semester and use it to improve in areas identified as lacking or borderline. Both comments and grades must be considered while reflecting.

Submission Guidelines:

  1. Interim assessment: Mid-semester portfolio will be submitted and reviewed mid-way through the semester (Week 9) and feedback provided. This is a formative assessment.
  2. Final assessment: End-semester portfolio will be submitted and reviewed by the Course Coordinator at the end of the final week of the semester (Week 18). This is summative assessment.

A COMPLETED portfolio must follow the criteria described above.
