This course is the third of the discipline-specific clinical courses for DClinDent students. The objectives are to progressively build competence and confidence at second year level in specialty clinical practice and knowledge. The contact hours may vary between disciplines but students should refer to the published hours as a guide.
DENT8030 is the initial opportunity for postgraduate students to operate entirely within the specialist environment and the content of the individual disciplines is directed to this end. It is expected that students will embrace the progressive accumulation of knowledge and clinical skills that separate general from specialist practice.
The Clinical Log should now be well established and contain the progressive accumulation of experiences within the program.
The specific course content will vary depending upon the candidate’s clinical discipline. Specific discipline learning objectives, course materials, learning activities and assessments will be provided to students by their respective Discipline Lead, as follows:
DMFR: Dr Raahib Dudhia
Endodontics: Prof Ove Peters
Orthodontics: Dr Hisham Mohammed
Periodontics: Assoc Prof Ryan Lee
Prosthodontics: Assoc Prof David Thomson
Special Needs Dentistry: Dr Claudia Lopez Silva
Oral Medicine: Dr Maryam Jessri
Course requirements
Assumed background
This course builds directly on DENT8020 and requires a detailed knowledge of all undergraduate materials in the specialty discipline and related disciplines. This course leads to theᅠsecond major examination within the program and it is essential that all background knowledge and the progressive accumulation of specialist knowledge and skills is within the planned parameters. If this is not the case, then the candidate must ensure that open discussion occurs with the Discipline Lead to allow the inclusion of remedial activities.
Prerequisites
You'll need to complete the following courses before enrolling in this one:
