This course allows students to translate theory into practice. Students will apply contemporary behaviour change theories, engage in co-design, and collaborative learning within a community or public health setting. This course will explore quality management principles with a professional entrepreneurial approach to public health and community nutrition, Students will gain confidence in promoting health services to support culturally appropriate and equitable health outcomes. This course allows students to undertake 20 days of professional practice.
This course has been designed to provide you with the knowledge, skills and attributes which underpin Community and Public Health Nutrition practice. It incorporates a 20-day work integrated learning opportunity to get hands-onᅠexperience in CPHN in an organisational setting. This subject has a particular focus on understanding how to work with priority populations, and how to incorporateᅠprinciples of equity and sustainability into health promotion practice, including in the development, implementation and evaluation of programs.

Workshops will run each Wednesday from 9-12pm in Weeks 1-6 and are face-to-face.
This course includes professional practice, all students must attend their placement sites as rostered.ᅠ
Aims and outcomes
Students will learn about health promotion, culture and how food systems impact on the health of communities and populations.
The National Dietitians Australia competency standards covered in this course include:

Task description
This assessment should be completed after engaging with Module 2 and Module 3 of the Understanding Cultural Safety modules (Blackboard). From the course materials, you have learned about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' histories and cultures, contemporary health, and culturally safe practice. This task requires you to reflect on your learnings and how you will apply your knowledge of culturally safe practice in dietetics practice.

Task description
This assessment includes two components:
1. Competency Assessment - Students will self-assess their progress and professionalism on placement at both an interim (end of week 2) and final (end of week 5) timepoint. Professional practice supervisors will provide feedback using the same form for both the interim and final assessment.
2. Placement Plan and Feedback Action Plan (placement plan) - Students must complete this plan in preparation for placement. Due end of week 1 of placement.

A final percentage mark will be rounded to the nearest whole number (e.g., 64.50 and above will be rounded to 65 and 64.49 and below will be rounded down to 64).
This course contains ‘must pass’ assessment item, specifically the Placement Learning Plan and Competency Assessment. Students must pass all assessment components of this assessment item to pass the course overall, i.e. even if your final percentage mark is 50% or higher, if the individual ‘must pass’ assessment item are not passed, a student cannot achieve a grade higher than a 3.

Attendance at all workshops is strongly encouraged as material covered in the workshops will assist in successfully completing all aspects of this course. Workshops are intended to be interactive and workshops will not be recorded. Workshop slides will be available on Blackboard. Students who miss a workshop must complete the School of Human Movement and Nutrition Sciences - absentee form available from the HMNS Student Support website and submit via email to the Course Coordinator along with evidence to support your absence for verification purposes. Any non-approved absences may result in being placed under the Fitness to Study policy.
