This course allows students to translate theory into practice. Students will apply contemporary behaviour change theories, engage in co-design, and collaborative learning within a community or public health setting. This course will explore quality management principles with a professional entrepreneurial approach to public health and community nutrition, Students will gain confidence in promoting health services to support culturally appropriate and equitable health outcomes. This course allows students to undertake 20 days of professional practice.
This course is designed to develop your knowledge, skills and understanding of Community and Public Health Nutrition. This course will explore contemporary behaviour change theories, co-design, culturally safe dietetic practice, food systems and planning, implementing and evaluating health promotion programs. It incorporates a 20-day work integrated learning opportunity (professional placement) in a community or public health nutrition setting.

This course includes face-to-face workshops (weeks 1-5), followed by 20-days professional practice. Workshops are compulsory, and all students must attend their placement sites as rostered.ᅠ
Aims and outcomes
Students will learn about health promotion, culture and how food systems impact on the health of communities and populations.
The National Dietitians Australia competency standards covered in this course include:

Task description
This is an individual task. This assessment should be completed after engaging with Module 2 and Module 3 of the Understanding Cultural Safety modules on Blackboard (in-class). Students are asked to reflect on their learnings from Module 2 and Module 3 of the Understanding Cultural Safety modules and apply their new knowledge of culturally safe practice to their own discipline.

Task description
This assessment includes two components:
- Placement Plan and Feedback Action Plan (placement plan) - Students must complete this plan in preparation for placement.
- Professionalism and Competency Assessment - Students will self-assess their progress and professionalism on placement at both an interim (end of week 2) and final (end of week 5) timepoint. Professional practice supervisors will provide feedback using the same form for both the interim and final assessment.

A grade of 7 demonstrates imagination, originality or flair, based on proficiency in all the learning objectives for the course; work is interesting, surprising, exciting, challenging or erudite. |
Additional course grading information
This course contains ‘must pass’ assessment items, specifically the Competency Assessment and Learning Plan.
Students must pass this assessment item to pass the course overall, i.e. even if your final percentage mark is 50% or higher, if the individual ‘must pass’ assessment item is not passed, a student cannot achieve a grade higher than a 3.
Final marks falling between whole percentages will be rounded to the nearest whole percentage. For example:ᅠ84.5% and above will be rounded to 85% and 84.49% and below will be rounded down to 84%.
