Medical Nutrition Therapy 2 & 3 builds on Medical Nutrition Therapy 1, focusing on the application of the Nutrition Care Process in individual case management. Students spend the equivalent of 25 days in placement across the semester, and 5 days in clinic, to support competence as an entry-level dietitian.
Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) is a modern title, describing a broad range of activities that encompass both treatment of diseases with diet, and enhancing general well being. This course is the second MNT course which will provide you with further foundation knowledge and skills to undertake practice in the management of nutrition issues for individuals and groups. DIET7205 builds on Medical Nutrition Therapy 1 to include behaviour and lifestyle modifications for the nutritional management of chronic conditions as well as more complex acute cases with multiple co-morbidities. It aims to develop highly client-centred practitioners positioned to create change. Learning is student-led with mentoring from the teaching staff.ᅠ
Medical Nutrition Therapy theory is coupled with Practical Placement in DIET7205. The University of Queensland undertakes professional practice through partnerships with a number of service providers (public and private sector). As per the DA Accreditation Standards, the University must demonstrate that each student receives 100 days of placement across their program and receives appropriate depth and breadth of experience that includes exposure to MNT in acute and ambulatory settings, delivery of food service systems where MNT underpins delivery as well as public health nutrition experience. This course provides professional placement to obtain experience in MNT.ᅠ
