This course introduces how to develop and maintain effective and inclusive learning environments in higher education programs. The course draws on contemporary theories of higher education pedagogy, taking an evidence-informed reflective approach to improving practice. Participants attend common workshops and engage in learning activities particular to their elective choice in other weeks. A detailed schedule for each elective stream will be made available on Blackboard.

It is teaching practice that broadly includes any role supporting learning or curriculum development across formal, informal, and professional settings. This can range from lecturing, lab demonstrating, PhD supervision, and tutoring, to designing workshops, online modules, extracurricular programs, or learning resources like video materials or assessment guidance. It also includes mentoring, supervising placements, developing digital tools, and contributing to student engagement or professional learning, i.e. any activity that facilitates learning or enhances educational experiences.

Task description

The best way to enhance your teaching is to start with a solid plan. This task will help you to review your current practice, identify a strategic change you can make this semester to ehance your approaches and environments (A2) and to support and guide learners (A4). You will identify the supports you need to put in place to succeed.

You will complete a template:

• drawing together information you already have including your teaching philosophy and context,

• identifying people you need to work with and tasks you need to complete,

• strategically planning your change and the support you need to get there.

The template will be provided through Blackboard (Learn.UQ) and we will work through this template in workshop 1 identifying support available in this course and beyond to implement your enhancement plan.

Feedback on this task will be discussed in workshop 2.

Students may appropriately use AI and/or MT in completing this assessment task. Students must clearly acknowledge any use of AI or MT in each instance.
