Elective project for students enrolled in Master of Educational Studies. Project topics are confined to specialised research & teaching interests of permanent staff of the School of Education. Students must choose and approach a potential supervisor. Projects are negotiated with supervisors and typically take the form of literature reviews or small research projects. Students and supervisors together complete the Application to Undertake a Supervised Research Project Form located on the School website (Educational Studies - Postgraduate Coursework). Forms should be submitted two weeks prior to the enrolment due date for the chosen semester to the Administrative Officer. Subsequent for approval to undertake the project being received from the School of Education, students enrol in the course.
Students completing in one semester enrol in EDUC7910. Students completing in one year commencing in semester 1 enrol in EDUC7800 in both semesters. Students completing in one year commencing in semester 2 enrol in EDUC7801 in both semesters. Students are expected to maintain contact with their supervisor.
Projects provide an opportunity for students to conduct independent study on a topic of interest under the supervision of an academic from the School of Education. Students who wish to complete a project must negotiate their topic and project requirements with their supervisor. An Application to Undertake a Supervised Research Project Form contains a synopsis of the project and must be completed and submitted two weeks prior to the enrolment due date for the chosen semester. The Application to Undertake a Supervised Research Project Form submitted by the student provides a synopsis of the project negotiated.
The project will be assessed by your supervisor and one other marker.

Task description
Task 1: Individual Project Plan (Abstract, annotated bibliography, timeline)(Total words for Task 1 = 1000 words)
a) Write an abstract that provides a rationale for your project. (100-150 words)
b) Prepare an annotated bibliography containing at least 8 references that you will use during your project (approximately 100 words per reference in which you provide a short summary and critique of the topic in the reference)
c) Prepare a project timeline that outlines the tasks you will complete to ensure the timely submission of your project. These tasks will be negotiated with your supervisor.

All applications for extension must be accompanied by a medical certificate or other statutory documentation (e.g., counsellor’s letter) considered by the university to be acceptable evidence for extensions to due dates as outlined here. An extension granted to a student will not exceed the number of days stated on the supporting documentation.
An extension for an assessment item due within the teaching period in which the course is offered must not exceed four weeks in total. Where a student is incapacitated for a period exceeding four weeks of the teaching period, they might be advised to apply for removal of course.
Applications for extension received on the due date may only be approved due to exceptional circumstances that need to be explained clearly on the online application. What the university considers to be an exceptional circumstance is detailed in the UQ Policy and Procedures Library under the Assessment Procedure.
Late submission
A penalty of 1 grade for each 24 hour period from time submission is due will apply for up to 7 days. After 7 days you will receive a mark of 0.
Late submission of assessment tasks without an approval of an extension request via myRequests in myUQ will result in penalties being applied. (See Penalties for Late Submission below)
If the appropriate documentation has not been submitted (as detailed above) the grade assigned for the assessment item will be reduced one full grade level for each day (weekends and holidays included) beyond the due date for up to 7 calendar days, at which point any submission will not receive any marks unless an extension has been approved. Task description
Task 2: This task is the write up of the completed project. Students are expected to keep in regular contact with their supervisor to ensure that this task is of enough depth and scope to meet the requirements expected of a review of the literature or a report on a study that the student has implemented.
NB: The Criteria Sheet used for marking your project will depend on the nature of your project. If your project is literature based, then the Literature Review Criteria Sheet will be used. If you conduct a research project then the Criteria Sheet for Research Projects will be used.

Final grades are determined through the use of weighting formula based on the grades awarded for and weighting of each assignment.ﾠA grade out of 7 will be awarded for each assignment.ﾠAssignment 2ﾠwill beﾠmarked by your supervisor and one other marker.
Task 1ﾠis weighted as 30% and Task 2, the completed project,ﾠis weighted as 70%. The weighting formula is illustrated by the following examples

Release of assessment item marks and feedback
In addition to the grade awarded, feedback will be provided in a timely manner to enable students to apply the feedback to further tasks within the course or program and/or plan for supplementary assessment, requests for re-mark, or re-enrolment. However, as per UQ Policy and Procedures Library under the Assessment Policy, results for the final assessment item are to be released only after the final grade for the course has been released. Time frames for applications for assessment re-mark are indicated under the Assessment Procedure.
Re-mark policy
After each assessable item, students will be given the opportunity to view their assessment and so satisfy themselves that a marking or administrative error has not occurred. The formal process of querying a course result (requesting a remark on academic grounds) is set out in the UQ Policy and Procedures Library under the Assessment Procedure.

These tasks have been designed to be challenging, authentic and complex. Whilst students may use AI technologies, successful completion of assessment in this course will require students to critically engage in specific contexts and tasks for which artificial intelligence will provide only limited support and guidance.

To pass this assessment, students will be required to demonstrate detailed comprehension of their written submission independent of AI tools.
