This course introduces innovation as a capability to create and sustain an innovation culture. An innovation capability helps startups to retain their creative approaches to emerging opportunities, SMEs looking to scale their innovation processes and larger organisations that lack or seek to consolidate a systematic innovation capability. Students learn how to identify, build and lead innovation capabilities and apply this knowledge in problem-solving teams in live settings.
In today's continuously changing business environment, innovation is essential for the long-term success of organisations. Yet, efforts to become more innovative often fail because many organisations are hostile environments for innovation. In this course you will learn new skills, capabilities and strategies that will help you identify and drive innovation in teams and organisations. You will develop skills in creating organisational cultures and structures that support innovation, build capacity and resources in teams and learn skills to become a leader who champions innovation.
EIBS7303 allows you to learn about the latest thinking and practices in innovation through cases and simulations that help you build more innovative organisations to deliver sustainable competitive advantages. You will take the role of consultants to analyse and write a report on the steps an organisation could take to build an ongoing capability for innovation. Students will also build a personal reflective essay journal that captures your learning to become a future innovation leader.

Task description
The Research Journal is intended to capture your learning through undertaking the course. The journal is both a reflective document of your skills growth as well as a record of your ability to understand and apply key theories and analytical frameworks to organisational innovation problems. It will serve as an important guide to build your career in becoming an innovation leader.
During the relevant weeks you will be asked to make a submission to the research journal with a reflection on or application of relevant theories and frameworks covered in those weeks. The total assessment is worth 60 marks, but it is broken up in three parts to offer you the opportunity to gain feedback on your learning and performance throughout the semester.
Use of AI
This task has been designed to be challenging, authentic and complex. Whilst you may use AI technologies, successful completion of assessment in this course will require students to critically engage in specific contexts and tasks for which artificial intelligence will provide only limited support and guidance. To pass this assessment, you will be required to demonstrate detailed comprehension of their written submission independent of AI tools.
You must clearly reference any use of AI in each instance including providing an appendix with used prompts. A failure to reference generative AI use may constitute student misconduct under the Student Code of Conduct.
Submission guidelines
Submit via the Research Journal assessment link in Blackboard - each individual student to upload their personal journal for grading

You may be able to apply for an extension.
Late submission
A penalty of 10% of the maximum possible mark will be deducted per 24 hours from time submission is due for up to 7 days. After 7 days, you will receive a mark of 0.
