Practice-based service investigation and development project within a specific field of professional practice in Health Sciences, with a focus on issues associated with leading and implementing evidence-based practice.
This course requires students to take a step back from the provision of direct client-care and consider wider issues that drive service delivery and development, and the direction of their profession. Students will learn about service development and approaches to implementing change in professional practice including action learning and knowledge translation. Students will learn how these approaches can be used to plan and develop services, interventions and resources, and evaluate service outcomes or unmet service needs in inter-professional care. Working collaboratively within their field of practice with stakeholders who have identified a service need, teams of 4 students (or 3 students) will use an action learning approach to complete a 'real world' project. In their projects students will undertake a range of activities relevant to their project setting including, observing service provision, interviewing stakeholders, and reviewing appropriate policies and literature in order to understand influences on current practice and explore future directions. After finding the best available evidence through consultation with stakeholders and the literature, students will develop or evaluate a service, intervention or resource for a particular service or client group. Students will implement and/or make recommendations for practice and reflect on the suitability and sustainability of their recommendations with reference to the research evidence, the current socio-political context and organisational culture, understanding how these shape service provision and the development of services. The course emphasises research in practice and prepares graduates for practising as an evidence-based clinician and leadership in practitioner-researcher roles.ᅠHRSS7200 is offered to both occupational therapy and audiology students.

It is assumed that students will draw upon and build on their recent experience of placements and that they know how to conduct themselves in a respectful and professional manner when dealing with clients, clinicians and other service providers in the course of completing a project placement.

This course aims to provide students experience and skills in using a systematic approach to developing and enhancing services in health and rehabilitation in their field ofᅠpractice.

Task description
At each set meeting student teams are required to report on their project using the action learning process. This will mean that students speak to what they had planned, the action taken, what they observed, and a reflection on their action during the previous action learning cycle of their project. The first set meeting is a practice and then each team is responsible for allocating a different student to present at each following set meeting. This student will have a responsibility for presenting a verbal report in the set meeting and facilitating discussion with the members of the set. This student is required to submit a set report summarising their presentation of the action learning cycle to Turnitin by 5pm on the day after the set meeting. See Task Instructions on Learn.UQ.

Task description
Student teams must prepare a conference abstract (5%) and 15 minute conference presentation (15%) on their service development or evaluation project. See Task Description and Marking Rubric on Learn.UQ. Each team is required to submit a conference abstract according to abstract guidelines in the task description. The conference abstract will summarise the clinical project aims, methods, outcomes, and recommendations/conclusion. The conference presentation is strictly 15 minutes and all students must contribute to the delivery. Students are required to present at a high standard that would be expected at any professional conference.
This assignment is a group mark with individual marks adjusted according to the Peer Assessment Factor.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) provides emerging tools that may support students in completing this assessment task. Students may appropriately use AI in completing this assessment task. Students must clearly reference any use of AI in each instance. A failure to reference generative AI use may constitute student misconduct under the Student Code of Conduct.
Submission guidelines
Conference abstract to be submitted electronically via Turnitin (Learn.UQ). Two (2) printed copies of conference presentation slides to be submitted to markers on conference day.

Task description
This is a clinician-rated component of assessment. Clinicians are asked to provide feedback on students' professional behaviour, stakeholder consultation and project outcomes as outlined on the Clinician Project Outcome Marking Sheet. Clinicians will submit feedback and pass/fail decision once the project outcome has been delivered to them. Therefore project outcomes must be delivered to the clinician by 25th October 2024 at 2pm (unless otherwise negotiated with the clinician and the course coordinator notified). Clinicians are required to submit their assessment to the Course Coordinator within one week of project submission. This assignment is a group mark with individual marks adjusted according to a Peer Assessment Factor.

Additional course grading information
Final marks falling between whole percentages will be rounded to the nearest whole percentage. Tie-breaking will be conducted using the round half up method whereby half-way values are always rounded up, meaning, for example, that 89.5% and above will be rounded to 90% and 89.49% and below will be rounded down to 89%.
IMPORTANT NOTE: This course contains one ‘must pass’ assessment item.ᅠYou must pass the Action Learning Reflection Assignment to pass this course overall, i.e. even if your final percentage mark is 55% or higher the individual ‘must pass’ assessment item must have been passed.

Resubmission/Resit of Assessment Items
The School of Health & Rehabilitation Sciences supports the concept of resubmission or resitting of failed assessment items in specific and defined circumstances. In this course, the Action Learning Reflection Assignment is eligible for consideration of the resit/resubmission option if the assessment item was completed/submittedᅠon time.
After resit/resubmission, the maximum result is a pass mark for that assessment component. Students who are granted a resit/resubmissionᅠfor an assessment item and do not attend on/submit the scheduled date will not be granted an extension/permitted to reschedule the assessment.
Students will be eligible for a maximum of ONEᅠ resubmission/resit optionᅠfor this course.
Deferred exams
Students may be eligible for a deferred exam if there are exceptional or unavoidable circumstances, or as a one-off discretionary request. Deferred exam requests should be submitted as soon as possible, and no later than five calendar days after the date of the original exam.
