Theᅠobjective of this course is to introduce the student to practical elements of research. As part of the course, students will take part in the planning and conduct of a research project under the supervision of staff in the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences. Students will be required to perform some aspects of research including data collection and/or analysis, preparation of a report, and oral presentation. The report is in the form of a manuscript for a peer-reviewed journal and forms the major assessment element. The oral presentation occurs at the end of semester.ᅠ

Task description
In completing the research project and research reports, student groups are expected to demonstrate their initiative and dedication to the successful completion of the project. While the supervisor/s guide the overall direction of the project, student groups must plan and carry out project tasks with competence and diligence. This mark is allocated by the student group's supervisor/s, after the research report has been submitted for examination. A rubric will be available on Blackboard in the Assessment Folder.

Task description
Students write and submit a written research report (thesis) as a group in the form of a journal manuscript for publication.
The student group and supervisor(s) will nominate the journal for which the manuscript is being written. The journal should be suitable for the topic of the manuscript and the student group should comply with the journal guidelines. Student groups must provide the “Guidelines for Contributors/Authors” of that journal for examiners for marking purposes.
The manuscript length will depend on the specific requirements of the nominated journal.
Project report mark - this will be calculated using the average percentage of marks from 2 independent examiners. Should there be a substantial difference between the 2 marks, then a third examiner will be engaged and the final mark will be the average of the closest 2 marks.
Use of AI technology: This task has been designed to be challenging, authentic and complex. Whilst student groups may use AI technologies, successful completion of assessment in this course will require students to critically engage in specific contexts and tasks for which artificial intelligence will provide only limited support and guidance. A failure to reference AI use may constitute student misconduct under the Student Code of Conduct. To pass this assessment, student groups will be required to demonstrate detailed comprehension of their written submission independent of AI tools.

Additional course grading information
The cumulative percentage from all assessment is derived from an average percentage of 2 markers for the written report, plus percentage for the oral report, plus advisor mark for group work participation.
Final marks falling between whole percentages will be rounded to the nearest whole percentage. Tie-breaking will be conducted using the round half up method whereby half-way values are always rounded up, meaning, for example, that 89.5% and above will be rounded to 90% and 89.49% and below will be rounded down to 89%.
Supplementary assessment
Supplementary assessment is available for this course.
Additional assessment information
For legal reasons, all consent forms and a copy (disk or hard copy) of raw data must be retained by the School for 7 years. Please give consent forms and data to your supervisor on completion of the research.
Use of Generative AI in Assessments
Assessment tasks in this course evaluate students' abilities, skills, and knowledge without the aid of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Students are advised that the use of AI technologies to develop responses is strictly prohibited and may constitute student misconduct under the Student Code of Conduct.
