This course works through clinical research of your own clinical work. An ability to critically review published literature on skin cancer medicine is integral to the academic content of the course. You will engage in a guided research activity in a selected area of skin cancer research. The project is designed to be flexible, with the specific setting, activities and outcomes which include a comprehensive written report, negotiated between yourself and advisor(s).

This course is a core component of the Master of Medicine (Skin Cancer) program, underscoring the importance of developing critical thinking and research skills for proficiency in skin cancer medicine. We hope you will find that, as you progress through this course, critical thinking and research principles are foundational to delivering quality patient care and add intellectual stimulation to your daily clinical practice. Whether you're accessing and interpreting research literature to answer clinical questions or undertaking a research project, these skills are essential.

Task description

The Surgical Audit report should be at least 1500 words and include an analysis of data collected over the semester pertaining to at least 50 cases collected through the SCARD audit. Proper collation and entry of data will make analysis easier to analyse. Although a detailed knowledge of statistics is not required it is expected some basic analytical principles be employed when looking at the data. Analysis of raw data will be complete when accompanied by literature research, contemplation of how these results tabulate with your patient population and medical practice setup. You will be expected to submit a copy of the data extract of your case series as well as one of the total audit population to compare in your assignment and this will not be added to your word count.

2 (Fail) 35 - 44

Minimal evidence of achievement of course learning outcomes.

Course grade description: If you do not meet the passing criteria for more than one of the Assessment Tasks or Compliance Hurdles in the course, you will be unable to receive a grade higher than 2.

3 (Marginal Fail) 45 - 49

Demonstrated evidence of developing achievement of course learning outcomes

Course grade description: Attains an overall mark of at least 45% but less than 50%. If you do not meet the passing criteria for one of the Assessment Tasks or Compliance Hurdles in the course you will be unable to receive a grade higher than 3.

4 (Pass) 50 - 64

Additional course grading information

You will be unable to receive a grade of 4 or higherᅠin thisᅠcourse if you do not complete an Assessment Task, if you fail to submit an Assessment Task, or if you do not achieve a passing grade for each Assessment Task. You must also meet all Compliance Hurdle requirements to achieve a grade of 4 or higher the course.ᅠ

Calculation of Final Grade

The percentage mark for this course is reached by calculating the weighted average percentage mark achieved across the marked assessment tasks. The total of the weighted assessment tasks for the course will be rounded to two decimal points if required, with the final mathematical rounding to an integer at the end yielding a percentage mark. A mark of x.5% or greater will be rounded up to (x+1)%. A percentage mark of less than x.5% will be rounded down to x%.

Pass marks are set for assessment items, however on occasion a recognised standard setting methodᅠmay be used to determine the pass mark.ᅠ
