This course focuses on Low B1 level (Independent User) on CEFR language proficiency scale, especially on developing aural/oral skills (listening and speaking) of Korean language up to High B1 level (Independent User), while maintaining the balance in the development of speaking/listening, reading, writing, and cultural competence. It introduces real life situations in the Korean context and provides intercultural communication skills through the study of adapted and authentic texts. This course introduces students to a range of new language elements through various topics and real-life language situations in the Korean context. Some of the topics are also discussed in cross-cultural comparison with Australia as well as other countries when applicable. In that way, students are supported in their employability opportunities.
As a continuation of KORN3005/KORN3006, KORN3010 builds on the communication skills previously acquired, ensuring a seamless transition and further development of language proficiency. To maximise learning outcomes, it is highly recommended that students take KORN3011 concurrently, as it focuses on further developing reading and writing skills.
Course requirements
Assumed background
The formal prerequisite for KORN3010 is KORN3005 and the recommended prerequisite is KORN3006. Please note that on the basis of such knowledge or abilities, enrolment in a different course may be recommended. If a student enrols in a course for which they hold incompatible qualifications, they may be advised to cancel their enrolment. Any misrepresentation in the placement process may be raised as a misconduct matter.

Grade | Cut off Percent | Description |
---|---|---|
1 (Low Fail) | 0 - 24 |
Absence of evidence of achievement of course learning outcomes. Course grade description: A student awarded this grade has not completed the required assessment items. You have failed to satisfy any of the objectives of the course. |
2 (Fail) | 25 - 44 |
Minimal evidence of achievement of course learning outcomes. Course grade description: A student awarded this grade has not completed the required assessment items. Spoken communication relies on prompts and cues; responses are hesitant, repetitive and formulaic but relevant to the context. Some non verbal features are used. |
6 (Distinction) | 75 - 84 |
Demonstrated evidence of advanced achievement of course learning outcomes. Course grade description: A range of vocabulary and grammar is used effectively with some errors. Selected cohesive devices are used to connect familiar thoughts and ideas. Resister is usually appropriate to the situation. Pronunciation, intonation, rhythm and stress are acceptable to a background speaker. Ideas, information and meaning are usually communicated clearly, although errors may occur in complex language. Conversation is generally sustained. Spoken communication demonstrates flexibility when using familiar language; responses are relevant to the context, although they may be hesitant. Some appropriate pause fillers and nonverbal feature are used. |
7 (High Distinction) | 85 - 100 |
Demonstrated evidence of exceptional achievement of course learning outcomes. Course grade description: A wide range of vocabulary and grammar is used effectively with few errors. A range of cohesive device is used to express connected thoughts and ideas. Resister is appropriate to the situation. Pronunciation, intonation, rhythm and stress are acceptable to a background speaker. Ideas, information and meaning are communicated clearly and effectively, although some errors may occur in complex language. Conversation is initiated and sustained. Spoken communication demonstrates flexibility coherence, spontaneity and relevance to the context. Appropriate pause fillers and nonverbal features are used where required. |
