This course provides an introduction to the fundamental principles of managing business organisations including key management concepts, models and contexts. The course covers the functions of management, strategic frameworks and responsible management.
This course is designed to provide an introduction to the fundamental principles of managing business organisations. It will allow for the critical exploration of management concepts, models and contexts using a team-based approach. While working in teams, students will learn how to apply management theory and research evidence in analysing and creatively solving real-life management problems. Students will also learn how to critically and ethically evaluate managerial decisions while considering the organisation's context in a culturally diverse and internationalised world. The unit draws upon a range of academic, practical and pop cultural sources to engage students in authentic ways of learning about management.

Bachelor of Business Management (BBusMan) students are highly recommended to take MGTS1301 in their first semester of study alongside MGTS1601, ACCT1101 and ECON1011.

Task description
Working in teams during tutorials, you will discuss different case studies across the semester. You will discuss the case in class and develop an answer as a team.
The best four (4) marks out of six (6) will be taken in consideration for your final grade in this assessment.
Members of the group will be required to submit a Peer Assessment of the other members of the group. Peer Assessment results may be used to adjust students' individual group assignment results.

You cannot defer or apply for an extension for this assessment.
The team-based tutorial assessment is conducted in class. Teams are graded on their ability to discuss and apply theory as well as their ability to work as a team. Tutors guide student in their understanding and application of theory. They also mentor teams to help students work together effectively across the semester. Students must attend their tutorial and work in their allocated team to be assessed. As only 4 of 6 tutorials are counted towards the final grade, students can miss up to two assessed tutorials without an impact on their grade.
Late submission
A penalty of 10% of the maximum possible mark will be deducted per 24 hours from time submission is due for up to 7 days. After 7 days, you will receive a mark of 0.

Task description
You will research news articles to identify a management problem.
You will then research the scholarly management literature related to your chosen problem.
In your written assignment you will apply the insights you found in the scholarly literature and make recommendations about the management problem you identified.
