All required assessment tasks will be modelled clearly during the practical musicianship classes.

This task has been designed to be challenging, authentic and complex. Whilst students may use AI and/or MT technologies, successful completion of assessment in this course will require students to critically engage in specific contexts and tasks for which artificial intelligence will provide only limited support and guidance.

A failure to reference generative AI or MT use may constitute student misconduct under the Student Code of Conduct.

To pass this assessment, students will be required to demonstrate detailed comprehension of their written submission independent of AI and MT tools.

Submission guidelines

Part 1 of Practical Musicianship assessment will be submitted in the form of a video recording in which students are clearly identified to the assessor. Work submitted that does not provide sufficiently clear identification of the student will not be accepted. Technical standard of the recording process does not need to be professional, but must audibly clear (no distortion) and adequately framed and lit. Detailed instructions for submission of material will be provided via the course blackboard site.

Part 2 of Practical Musicianship assessment will be conducted as a live practical demonstration for individuals and allocated groups.

Deferral or extension

You may be able to apply for an extension.

The maximum extension allowed is 28 days. Extensions are given in multiples of 24 hours.

Late submission

A penalty of 1 grade for each 24 hour period from time submission is due will apply for up to 7 days. After 7 days you will receive a mark of 0.

Late assessment penalty for Part 1 will be 1 grade per say the assessment is late.

Non-attendance at the practical demonstrations for Part 2 without reasonable cause (e.g. medical condition or emergency) will result in no grade being assigned for this part.

Task description

Students post regular short (c. 150 word) written reflections on their progress through the aural musicianship practical class, taking into consideration their personal progress, comparison to prior learning or experience and so forth. These will be posted to a discussion board via the course Blackboard site.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Translation (MT) are emerging tools that may support students in completing this assessment task. Students may appropriately use AI and/or MT in completing this assessment task. Students must clearly reference any use of AI or MT in each instance.

A failure to reference generative AI or MT use may constitute student misconduct under the Student Code of Conduct.

Submission guidelines

Submission will be through regular discussion board entries.

  • Analyse the educational principles and outcomes of the method
  • Compare it with their own musicianship experience
  • Situate the method within a wider historical and pedagogical context

More specific detail is provided in the task description which will be made available to students during the course.
