This course provides opportunities for students to apply their learned discipline-based knowledge and understanding to develop and deliver a collaborative research project at a specific GLAM (Galleries, Libraries, Archives, Museums) workplace. Students will develop skills and expertise in a particular area of interest. Placement projects include ten days of work integrated learning with one industry partner in the GLAM sector. The work placement may be taken over ten weeks, in a block of ten days, or adapted to suit both parties.
The course builds student capacity to understand and evaluate the application of theory to contemporary museum practice. Projects should incorporate strong research elements, with scope to employﾠrelevant methodologies to gather data and make relevant conclusions and/or recommendations for the host institution. Task description
Over the semester, you are encouraged to keep a journal to reflect on your own learning and experiences. A total of 3 of your journal entries of 600-1000 words each must be submitted on Blackboard using the Blackboard Journal tool. These are to be submitted by 2pm on Friday 28 March, 2 May, and 30 May 2025.
Marking criteria and/or marking rubrics are available in the ‘Assessment’ folder in Blackboard for this course.
Use of AI: For all graded assessments in this course, use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) software is not permitted. Graded assessments evaluate students' abilities, skills and knowledge without the aid of AI. Students are advised that the use of AI technologies to develop responses is strictly prohibited and may constitute student misconduct under the Student Code of Conduct. A failure to reference AI use may constitute student misconduct under the Student Code of Conduct.

You must submit your assignment electronically by the due time, on the due date.
Your assignment must be submitted via Turnitin on blackboard. Task description
Imagine you have been asked to provide an update of your research project to the management team in your GLAM workplace. Prepare a 3-5 minute recording to communicate an overview of your research, your key aims, and your proposed methodology. It is important to explain what approach you are taking to achieve your aims and why.

GLAM research methodologies This workshop explores methodologies relevant to GLAM sector research. It will help students prepare for the digital presentation assignment. As an interdisciplinary field, Museum Studies research is diverse and we will discuss in detail the approaches and tools available for everyone's individual MUSM7014 projects. Reporting and reflecting By this workshop, many students will be reaching the end of their placement project and focusing on their final report. The session takes a detailed look at how to develop a research report for a professional audience. We will consider elements such as the executive summary and tone.
