This course provides opportunities for students to reflect on their clinical placements drawing on their theoretical knowledge. Students will support each other through an online community of practice, which is a step towards establishing their professional support network. This course enables students to develop and expand core knowledge and skills to critically analyse their everyday practice.
This course uses frameworks, such as the Model of Context-Specific Professional Reasoning (MCPR), for developing skills in independent and critical analysis of professional encounters. It guides students to consider how encounters in clinical/professional practice are shaped by the lenses brought by both professionals and clients, the communities surrounding the person and the professional, andᅠthe nature of the professional/person-professional relationships,ᅠas well as the influence of the following contexts: organisation, legislative and government policy, social structures and culture. As a specific example of socio-cultural contexts, students will learn about cultural-responsive practices when working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, using the Making Connections framework.ᅠThis course uses the learning principles of critical reflection on and analysis of experience in occupational therapy practice. This course runs in conjunction with OCTY4104.
