This course provides opportunities for students to reflect on their clinical placements drawing on their theoretical knowledge. Students will support each other through an online community of practice, which is a step towards establishing their professional support network. This course enables students to develop and expand core knowledge and skills to critically analyse their everyday practice.

This course uses frameworks, such as the Model of Context-specific Professional Reasoning (MCPR), for developing skills in independent and critical analysis of professional encounters. It guides students to consider how encounters in clinical/professional practice are shaped by the communities surrounding the person and the professional, andᅠthe nature of the professional/person-professional relationships,ᅠas well as the influence of the following contexts: organisation, legislative and government policy, social structures and culture. As a specific example of socio-cultural contexts, students will learn about cultural-responsive practices when working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, using the Making Connections framework. The students also have an opportunity to collaborate with the Master's Occupational Therapy students from other countries, such as the USA. This course uses the learning principles of critical reflection on and analysis of experience in occupational therapy practice. This course runs in conjunctionᅠwith OCTY7818 and 7836.

Task description

Students are required to collaborate with Florida Gulf Coast University peers to deliver a 15-minute Zoom presentation. This presentation will cover insights from your two-day QLD Health mental health placement from OCTY7827, focusing on the Australian healthcare system, the role of occupational therapists, and specific examples observed. After the presentation, a Q&A session will allow for cultural exchange and deeper insights. Each student will then write a reflective analysis on the contextual impact on practice, using Model of Context-specific Professional Reasoning (MCPR), supported by academic evidence and insights from the interaction, to inform their future practice as occupational therapists.
