This course explores the principles, concepts and factors including cultural safety considerations which influence consumer behaviour in relation to health care. It covers the development of professional socialisation and collegiality and leadership. Students will also learn the essentials of strategic business planning and sustainable business.

In this course, students will learn what it means for a pharmacist to be socially accountable to consumers, patients and the public. Students will examine arguments relating to professional and business ethics. Finally, students will develop knowledge and skills in relation to pharmacy as a business and reflect on the responsibilities of pharmacists in a retail environment.ᅠ

Aims and outcomes

To explore how to manage and lead change in a complex health environment including understanding change management principles, decision making, managing people, and managing yourself. You will look at applying to pharmacy practice, the social and behavioural science on consumer behaviour and their attitudes to their health and illness.

Learning outcomes

After successfully completing this course you should be able to:

Task description

Students will complete two (2) online Cultural Safety in Practice modules throughout the semester and submit a small assessment on their learning in each module:    

Cultural Safety in Practice Module 3: Cultural Safety in Health and Community Services 

Cultural Safety in Practice Module 4: Reflection on Professional Practice 

Assessment consists of a series of 2 reflections, modules 3 and 4 ( 2 x 7.5%) totalling 15% of the final mark for PHRM2300. 

This assessment task evaluates student’s abilities, skills and knowledge without the aid of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Students are advised that the use of AI technologies to develop responses is strictly prohibited and may constitute student misconduct under the Student Code of Conduct.

Task description

You will be provided with a scenario around human resource management in the workplace and your task is to discuss the steps you would implement in practice for an optimal response

Your assignment should include an analysis of the resources that are available for guidance. 

  • This assignment must be referenced using the Vancouver style. 
  • Students are required to work individually to complete this piece of assessment.  
  • Assignment will be marked out of 100 (no submission or no questions answered – 0 marks), according to the assignment marking criteria and carries an assessment weighting of 35%. 
  • The word limit for this assignment is 1500 words not including headings and references.  
  • This task has been designed to be challenging, authentic and complex. Whilst students may use Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Translation (MT) technologies, successful completion of the assessment will require students to critically engage in specific contexts and tasks for which AI will provide only limited support and guidance. A failure to reference AI or MT use may constitute student misconduct under the Student Code of Conduct. To pass this assessment, students will be required to demonstrate detailed comprehension of their written submission independent of AI and MT tools.

Task description

This task involves providing an individual audio-video response to questions around behaviour. This scenario is taken from a workplace, and you are required to develop a management strategy based on patient-centred care. Determine what behavioural/motivational techniques that could be used to motivate the patient to change their behaviour and improve the health outcome. Record up to a 5-minute video of yourself explaining your response to the scenario questions. Your face must be visible throughout the video.

  • Each quiz has 10 questions each worth 2 marks – total points = 20 points
