The aim of the course is for students to complete a structured project in clinical pharmacy practice. The project can be a research project, quality improvement project or practice change project and should seek to improve some aspect of patient care or patient outcomes. The student will employ the knowledge and skills developed throughout the program to provide a rationale for the project (including a synthesis of the available evidence), describe the methods or activities that will be employed, implement the project and evaluate the outcomes of the project. The project will be presented via a lightning talk and written report.

PHRM7095 guides students through the execution, evaluation or analysis and reporting of a quality assurance or research project. Students can work within teams, but their contribution to the project needs to be significant and can be clearly articulated. Peer and academic feedback will support students in the implementation of their advanced practice project. An introductory online session will be held on Tuesday of week 1, from 6-7 PM QLD time. This course is taught online, and there will be three online tutorials held on Tuesday or Wednesday evenings.

Task description

There are two components to this series of activities:

1. Approval of proposed project (e.g. ethics and/or governance) must be logged by the 30th of August - this is compulsory to pass this course

It is a requirement for this course to submit any necessary approvals (i.e. ethics exemption, ethics approval, governance approval) required to conduct your project before you are starting your data collection.

If your project does not require formal approval (i.e. ethics exemption, ethics approval, governance approval), you must submit a statement outlining why this is the case (e.g. a systematic or scoping review relying only on published data does not require formal approval).

Without submission of relevant approvals (e.g., ethics exemption, approval, governance) you cannot pass PHRM7095. Submit via Turn-in link on Black Board by 19th August

2. For each module, students will submit a draft of their project report for peer feedback through their group discussion board, and to discuss at the tutorials.

Module 1 (weeks 1-4): Introduction / background and Aim(s) (word minimum 300, word maximum 500)

Module 2 (weeks 5-8): Methods and preliminary results if available (word minimum 400, word maximum 600)

Module 3 (weeks 9-12): Results (word minimum 300, word maximum 500)/ summary outline of discussion (optional)

There will be a 1-hour tutorial for each module (based on the group to which you are allocated). The facilitator will provide feedback regarding any common/ key issues and address any specific questions from groups and individuals.

Tutorials will be held in the evening from 18:30-19:30 OR 19:35 - 20:35 QLD time - Student's assigned tutorial time will be announced via Blackboard and will be based on the group to which you are allocated

Task description

Students provide feedback on the work (project report drafts) their peers submit on Blackboard group discussion boards. Feedback should be provided to different group members in different modules (see Criteria and Marking below for details).

There will be a tutorial for each module. At the tutorials, which will be held in small groups, students can also contribute to the development of their colleague's project by discussing methodological, ethical and other project relevant issues. Engagement and peer feedback via discussion boards and at the tutorials will be marked by the tutorial facilitator.

To gain marks for the feedback provided to your colleagues it has to be:

  • Constructive and collegial
  • Contribute to project and project report development
  • Referenced where appropriate
  • Provided on discussion boards and verbal feedback provided by the end of the tutorial for each module
  • Has to be quality feedback that can help optimise a project

As an indication, 300 words of feedback on the discussion boards should allow for sufficient detail and depth.

Marks will be attributed in the following manner for each module:

4 points / 100% Feedback was provided to two or more group members in writing and verbal contributions have been made at the tutorial.

3 points / 75%  Feedback was provided to two or more group members in writing.

2 points / 50%  Feedback was provided to one group member in writing.

1 point / 25%   Feedback was provided verbally at the tutorial only.

Submission guidelines

Provide feedback verbally at the tutorials and in writing on discussion boards.
