An introductory supervised clinical placement with experiences of hospital placements in both acute (cardiorespiratory and/or orthopaedics) and outpatient musculoskeletal practice.
The course seeks to develop generic professional and clinical competencies through a variety of teaching and learning models in several settings. Models include use of standardised patients (SPs) and observational clinical experiences. The standardised patient model is a supervised experience which will progress from group work to individual work with SPs who are simulating clinical conditions in a standardised way. Students will be given exposure to musculoskeletal and cardiorespiratory cases predominantly. The observational clinical experiences will provide exposure to various clinical settings.
Over the course, students will be introduced to the Australian and New Zealand Physiotherapy Practice Thresholds. You will receive graded exposure to patient conditions and clinical settings with the emphasis on gaining an understanding of what constitutes safe and professional clinical practice and how different clinical settings are organised and how they operate. Workbook items for each of these activities will be used to provide direction and will require reflection on the variety of experiences presented during the course.

Resubmissionᅠof assessment items
The School of Health & Rehabilitation Sciences supports the concept of resubmission or resitting of failed assessment items in specific and defined circumstances. In this course, the workbooks are eligible for consideration forᅠthe resubmissionᅠoptionᅠif the assessment item was submittedᅠon time. Students who are granted a resubmissionᅠfor an assessment item and do not submit byᅠthe scheduled date will not be granted an extension.ᅠ
Note: a resit is not available for the simulation activities or the clinical observations as assessment is continuous and based on performance over the course of the week.
Use of Generative AI in assessments
Assessment tasks in this course evaluate students' abilities, skills, and knowledge without the aid of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Students are advised that the use of AI technologies to develop responses is strictly prohibited and may constitute student misconduct under the Student Code of Conduct.
