This course develops the student’s knowledge of the anatomical and physiological adaptations to exercise as a basis for rehabilitation of physical function in the management of injury, pathology and chronic disease. This course will assist in developing a sound understanding of key concepts underpinning therapeutic exercise including appropriate assessment, targeting and progression of exercise interventions. This will be advanced by integration of the multiple elements of motor control and skill acquisition within therapeutic exercise prescription.
Course requirements

Aims and outcomes
To develop students’ knowledge and capabilities in the application of therapeutic exercise in the management of injury, pathology and disease in sports and musculoskeletal practice. To provide students with an advance knowledge of the fundamental components underpinning exercise prescription, including knowledge of motor control, skill acquisition, appropriate targeting of exercise interventions to the population or individual, and progressionᅠbased on a knowledge of pathological and adaptive timeframes.
Learning outcomes
After successfully completing this course you should be able to:
LO1.
Describe exercise induced adaptations and maladaptations.
LO2.
Employ exercise as a core treatment and prevention approach in musculoskeletal, occupational and sports injuries and conditions.
LO3.
Employ exercise in chronic disease management and in the maintenance of health and well-being.
LO4.
Demonstrate the ability to develop, implement and progress exercise programs at individual and population levels.

Task description
Modular tasks that guide you through feedback on your learning occur in each module and are due at the end of each module with the final grade being apportioned 10% (Module 1: Personal Directed Task), 5% (Module 2: Group Debate), 10% (Module 3: Personal Directed Task), & 5% (Module 4: Group Debate) across the semester.
These tasks involve both group and individual/personal based submissions. The group work will take the form of two debates (10%) and the Personal Directed Tasks will involve relevant reviews of the literature to build an evidence informed approach to your practice (20%).
The Personal Directed Tasks will involve a formative quiz within each module using Inspera Assessment. Inspera Assessment provides additional functionality to complement the existing suite of digital learning tools at UQ with a greater range of question types and accessibility provisions. Inspera Assessment may be used for the multiple choice and short answer question assessment in this course. Further details, including an introduction to Inspera functionality, practice opportunities, and where to go for support, will be provided via Blackboard during semester.
This assessment task evaluates students' abilities, skills and knowledge without the aid of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Students are advised that the use of AI technologies to develop responses is strictly prohibited and may constitute student misconduct under the Student Code of Conduct.
Submission guidelines
Personal directed tasks are submitted via Blackboard. Group debates are held live via video conferencing (e.g. Zoom, Teams).
