Task description
The Sports Analysis Assignment consists of 2 parts.
Part 1: Oral presentation (20%)
Students will select a sport and deliver an individual oral presentation analysing a fundamental skill or movement which is a key component of the sport (i.e., a tennis serve, volleyball spike, rugby tackle, the eggbeater kick in water polo, etc…). This skill/task must then be related to the management of a specific injury typically seen in this sport.
Within the presentation, students will provide:
(i) an overall analysis of the sport outlining the physical parameters necessary for elite performance (e.g., energy system requirements, strength, power, speed, flexibility, agility).
(ii) a detailed review of a fundamental skill/task involved in this sport, including breaking down the task into its individual components and completing a full biomechanical analysis, considering range of motion, muscle action, joint forces/moments, and any other specific physical characteristics important for optimal performance of this task. You may source a video or use video analysis software (i.e., Dartfish, Coaches eye or similar), to record a video of an individual performing your chosen sporting task.
(iii) a breakdown of the aspects of this skill/task that will serve as objectives to be met in rehabilitation of a patient who has an injury that is typically seen in this sport. That is, you will specifically address the implications for the design of an exercise program that rehabilitates the patient towards performance of their task at a level that they can participate in training and competition.
The presentation will be fifteen (15) minutes in length followed by five (5) minutes of questions and discussion.
The sport and task analysis chosen must be different to those included in the lecture/PBL series.
Presentations will be held on the 24th of September.
Part 2: Written report (15%)
Students will design a progressive exercise program that is specific to the sport and injury selected in Part 1. Students will submit a written report that contains the specific exercise program designed for a patient. This will include an overall plan, full details of exercises and progression, and criteria for progression through the duration of the exercise program from after the acute phase to return to sport/activity.
Written report is due Monday 4th November (2:00pm AEST).
This assessment task evaluates students' abilities, skills and knowledge without the aid of generative Artificial Intelligence (AI). Students are advised that the use of AI technologies to develop responses is strictly prohibited and may constitute student misconduct under the Student Code of Conduct.
Submission guidelines
Presentation slides and a reference sheet should be submitted through Blackboard 24hrs prior to the oral presentation. The Written Assignment should be submitted through Blackboard by the due date.
Deferral or extension
You may be able to apply for an extension.
The maximum extension allowed is 14 days. Extensions are given in multiples of 24 hours.
Late submission
A penalty of 10% of the maximum possible mark will be deducted per 24 hours from time submission is due for up to 7 days. After 7 days, you will receive a mark of 0.

3 (Marginal Fail) | 50 - 59 |
Demonstrated evidence of developing achievement of course learning outcomes Course grade description: A cumulative percentage from all assessment of 50 - 59%. A grade of 3 will be awarded to a student who achieves a final mark of 60% or higher but who does not pass must pass assessment items noted below. |
4 (Pass) | 60 - 69 |
Demonstrated evidence of functional achievement of course learning outcomes. Course grade description: A cumulative percentage from all assessment of 60 - 69% and has passed the 'must pass' assessment items noted below. |
5 (Credit) | 70 - 79 |
Demonstrated evidence of proficient achievement of course learning outcomes. Course grade description: A cumulative percentage from all assessment of 70 - 79% and has passed the 'must pass' assessment items noted below. |

Additional course grading information
Final marks falling between whole percentages will be rounded to the nearest whole percentage. Tie-breaking will be conducted using the round half up method whereby half-way values are always rounded up, meaning, for example, that 89.5% and above will be rounded to 90% and 89.49% and below will be rounded down to 89%.
IMPORTANT NOTE: This course contains ‘must pass’ assessment items, as follows: Objective Structured Clinical Exam #2. ᅠYou must pass thisᅠitem to pass this course overall, i.e. even if your final percentage mark is 60% or higher the individual ‘must pass’ assessment items must have been passed.
Supplementary assessment
Supplementary assessment is available for this course.
Additional assessment information
Resubmission/Resit of Assessment Items
The School of Health & Rehabilitation Sciences supports the concept of resubmission or resitting of failed assessment items in specific and defined circumstances. In this course, the Objective Structured Clinical Exam #2 is eligible for consideration of the resit option if the assessment item was completed on time and achieved a Marginal Fail (i.e., Grade 3).
After resit, the maximum result is a pass mark for that assessment component. Students who are granted a resit for an assessment item and do not attend on the scheduled date will not be permitted to reschedule the assessment.
Students will be eligible for a maximum ofᅠ one ᅠresit option for this course.
Deferred exams
Students may be eligible for a deferred exam if there are exceptional or unavoidable circumstances, or as a one-off discretionary request. Deferred exam requests should be submitted as soon as possible, and no later than five calendar days after the date of the original exam.
Further details, including how to apply, can be found at -ᅠhttps://my.uq.edu.au/node/189/0#0. Please also email the Course Coordinator to advise of the deferred exam request.
