Lead Lecturer Art Therapyᅠ
Mon, Tues & Thurs 9am - 5pm (please schedule an appointment)
This Practicum course provides the opportunity to develop clinical skills in treatment settings. The emphasis of the third placement is developing specialist treatment skills with an emphasis on psychodynamic and Art Therapy interventions and use of self as a therapeutic tool. Methods for maximising the impact of external factors that influence client change will be explored. Art Therapy Field of Study requirements will be met by this course.
Welcome to the course PXMH7109 Practicum 3 in Art Therapy, a course for the Masters in Mental Health (Art Therapy).
The aim of this course is to provide you withᅠan experience of art therapy practice through supervised work consisting of 200 hours of placement in a clinical setting. There is an expectation that you will initiate and implement art therapy activities whilst on placement. However, all activities will be developed and conducted in close consultation with the on-site supervisor.
You will be required to attend a weekly supervision group to assist with the integration of theory and practice. The weekly supervision group will offer a place for reflective practice related to placement. In addition, it will address specific needs and questions relating to student experiences and provides a forum for learning and reporting back. In addition, art making is used as a tool for externalising questions and deepening clinical understanding of client/trainee art therapist interactions.
It is a course requirement that you keep a visual and written reflective journal; these will be entered onto the PXMH7109 Learn.UQ (Blackboard) online journal (please see assessment section for further information).
Please let me know promptly if you are experiencing any difficulties, so together, we can make sure your placement is a rewarding one.
This course can be taken Internally in-person (local - living in Brisbane) & Externally (remote - living outside of Brisbane). It is compulsory for you to attend residential workshops in-person.ᅠ
I look forward to an enjoyable semester with you.
