This course aims to provide final year students with the opportunity to apply conceptual knowledge to the real world via a professional placement or industry consultancy project (group project). As such, this course strongly links discipline learnings, personal employability skills and attributes developed by students across the duration of their studies with the challenges and expectations of working in industry. In doing so, students have the opportunity to gain valuable work experience in their chosen profession and to connect this experience to the development of a workplace ready skill-set. Successful completion of the course will provide students with the employability skills required for transition to the world of work. UQ’s Student Strategy (2016) highlights the importance of “broadening student access to alternative international experiences” as well as engendering “Work integrated learning (WIL) experiences that explicitly integrate theory with practice within a purposefully designed curriculum to foreground employability.” This course is designed for student entrepreneurs who are selected to attend an international immersion programme. The course provides opportunities to undertake authentic innovation and entrepreneurship-related work experiences, exposure to startup practices through fieldwork, study tours and work shadowing at various international locations.

Assumed background
This course is available to students enrolled in the Bachelor of Business, Bachelor of Commerce or the Bachelor of Business Management. Before gaining entry to this course, students will need to have successfully completed 24 units within their respective program with a grade point average of 5.00 (or higher) and have the approval of the course coordinator.
Prerequisites
You'll need to complete the following courses before enrolling in this one:
GPA of 4.0 or higher. Approval required from Head of School via Business School Postgraduate Student Liaison Team.
Restrictions
Restricted to students in the final year of the MBus, MCom, MEI and MTHEM programs.

Aims and outcomes
The transfer of knowledge and graduate attributes in meaningful work experience helps develops students’ employability potential.
The Business Industry Placement Course provides a strong link between the knowledge and graduate attributes you have developed from all of your courses at UQ and the challenges and expectations of employment.
You will be given the opportunity to gain work experience in your chosen profession. Also, via project work you will practically demonstrate to employers that you can transfer your knowledge and graduate attributes to employment.

Task description
Students will reflect on their personal development resulting from their international immersion experience. This is an essay type assignment in which they will illustrate self-awareness, personal and professional growth, as well as improved understanding of the cultural and business-related complexities in entrepreneurial endeavours.
The assessment tasks evaluate students' abilities, skills and knowledge without the aid of generative Artificial Intelligence (AI). Students are advised that the use of AI technologies to develop responses is strictly prohibited and may constitute student misconduct under the Student Code of Conduct.

Task description
Students will produce a short video presentation (max 4 minutes) about their immersion experience. They will talk about their experience, in particular the complexities and challenges they observed in their encounters with entrepreneurs and community leaders. They will reflect on the challenges they had to overcome and the network connections they were able to build. Finally, they will give account of the knowledge and skills they have gained and their personal growth.

Students will identify and analyse an innovation and/or entrepreneurship issue relevant to their immersion experience. The assessment piece must demonstrate thoughtful application of entrepreneurship and innovation theories. They must conduct research and submit an academic based paper using reviewed academic sources.
