SPCG4000 is a case study-based course that explores leadership and development in diverse communities through sport. It will focus on individual and community capacity building, sport as an intervention and leadership in different cultures.
As part of this course students may be required to obtain a Blue Card or additional documentation to ensure compliance with selected practical engagement sites. These requirements will be assessed on an individual basis.
This core course will challenge students to consider the backgrounds, capacities and needs of 'others' in their daily work as human movement studies professionals working in sport, exercise and physical education contexts.

Aims and outcomes
This course is predominately applied in focus and makes use of a variety of case studies to exemplify and problematise practices related to sport leadership and development in diverse communities. It is a required course for students within the BHSPE program and is also available and recommended to a variety of others (e.g. BESS students). The course aims to challenge students to consider the backgrounds, capacities and needs of ‘others’ at an advanced level in their daily work. In addition, we seek to draw upon students’ personal experiences and future perspectives to help co-construct deep understandings of quality sport leadership and development.

Use of generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) or Machine Translation (MT)
The tasks in the course have been designed to be challenging, authentic and complex. Whilst students may use AI and/or MT technologies, successful completion of assessments in this course will require students to critically engage in specific contexts and tasks for which artificial intelligence will provide only limited support and guidance.
A failure to reference generative AI or MT use may constitute student misconduct under the Student Code of Conduct.
To pass these assessments, students will be required to demonstrate detailed comprehension of their written submission independent of AI and MT tools.
