This course focuses on planning, providing and managing ethical speech pathology services as well as the professional business skills for working in the private sector. Students gain the necessary attributes to develop a quality service through direct teaching and mock planning situations.
SPCH4106 focuses on integration of knowledge about practice areas and consideration of how this knowledge is used in the diverse roles and opportunities available for speech pathology practice. This course uses an inquiry-based learning approach focusing on real-life service delivery issues within role contexts. ᅠSPCH4106 aims to provide students with entry level competencies in planning, providing and managing speech pathology services by fostering the skills and knowledge they need to function as independent health professionals.ᅠThis course uses a combination of self-directed learning activities, tutorials and peer presentations. Student participation is expected in all learning activities.

Aims and outcomes
The aim of this course is for students to develop knowledge of the roles and opportunities that are available to them in speech pathology practice and to describe the planning, implementation and evaluation of services within these role contexts.

Task description
Students must provide education for a hypothetical employer and specific work context e.g., private practice, school-based services, or hospital-based services (chosen by students) about telepractice in speech pathology. Questions to consider in the provision of this education may include:
What are the advantages of telepractice? What is the evidence for using telepractice? How would telepractice work and what could be the potential pitfalls of using telepractice? How could telepractice services be evaluated?
Students will submit a 3-4 minute video presentation through the Blackboard Course Media Gallery. Further information will be available on the course Blackboard site and discussed in the tutorial in Week 2.
If students experience technical difficulties and are unable to upload their video assignment, it is important that they notify the course coordinator immediately via email (a.rumbach@uq.edu.au) prior to the due date and time.
**Use of artifical intelligence tools: This task has been designed to be challenging, authentic and complex. Whilst students may use artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, successful completion of assessment in this course will require students to critically engage in specific contexts and tasks for which artificial intelligence will provide only limited support and guidance. A failure to reference AI use may constitute student misconduct under the Student Code of Conduct. To pass this assessment, students will be required to demonstrate detailed comprehension of their written submission independent of AI tools.

Deferral or extension
You may be able to apply for an extension.
The maximum extension allowed is 14 days. Extensions are given in multiples of 24 hours.

Task description
Students will work in groups of 10-12 to present a 20-minute Clinical Bite on "The Future of Speech Pathology". Each group will need to develop a persuasive, innovative and engaging learning activity to inform the audience of how they perceive the future of speech pathology practice to look in a specific context. Groups will be allocated different contexts including Aged Care, Education, Health, Private Practice, NGO, Research, Community Health or University Education to consider in their presentation.
Due Date Session Plan and Multimedia: Tuesday 25th March, 1 pm
- All groups must submit their Clinical Bite session plan and associated multimedia - one student per group may submit.
Due Date Presentations:
- Presentations will take place during students' timetabled sessions in weeks 5 and 6 of the semester. All groups must be ready to present in week 5.
- Attendance is expected at all presentations and content delivered as part of the Clinical Bites will be examinable on the End of Semester Exam.
- The presentations will be recorded.
**Use of artificial intelligence tools: This assessment task is to be completed in-person. The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools will not be permitted. Any attempted use of AI may constitute student misconduct under the Student Code of Conduct.

Task description
This written examination will be centrally-scheduled and held in the end of semester examination period. This examination will assess knowledge of how to plan, provide, manage and evaluate a speech pathology service in different workplace settings and with a diverse range of roles and opportunities. Final marks falling between whole percentages will be rounded to the nearest whole percentage. Tie-breaking will be conducted using the round half up method whereby half-way values are always rounded up, meaning, for example, that 89.5% and above will be rounded to 90% and 89.49% and below will be rounded down to 89%.

Resubmission/Resit of Assessment Items
The School of Health & Rehabilitation Sciences supports the concept of resubmission or resitting of failed assessment items in specific and defined circumstances. In this course, there are no assessments available for a resubmission or resit option.
After resubmission, the maximum result is a pass mark for that assessment component. Students who are granted a resubmissionᅠfor an assessment item and do not submit by the scheduled date will not be granted an extension.
