Task description

This is the final semester of the speech pathology program and students are about to transition to professional practice. A critical skill of a speech pathologist is advocacy for their profession, themselves and their clients. Advocacy is defined as “public support for or recommendation of a particular cause or policy”.

This individual assignment requires students to reflect on what advocacy means to them. Specifically, students will address the following questions:

  1. How would you demonstrate advocacy for the profession of speech pathology as a whole and why is this important?
  2. How would you demonstrate advocacy for yourself as a speech pathologist and why is this important?
  3. How would you as a speech pathologist demonstrate advocacy for the importance of person-, family-, and community-centred care and why is this important?

Students are required to submit an audiovisual zoom recording addressing the above questions. This recording is to be 8-10 minutes in length and will be submitted through the SPCH4202 eLearning Blackboard site. Students will present their recording in association with a 1-slide electronic poster/PowerPoint slide outlining the key information they are presenting, and a copy of their script for this presentation.

Submission guidelines

Audiovisual recordings will be submitted through the SPCH4202 eLearning Blackboard site.

Deferral or extension

You may be able to apply for an extension.

The maximum extension allowed is 14 days. Extensions are given in multiples of 24 hours.
