This course provides students with key skills required for the effective use of digital technology in translation. Areas covered will include: translation memory (TM) and other computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools, machine translation (MT) and post-editing. Self-editing and revision skills will also be covered.

Students submit weekly post-editing assignments in both direction between Weeks 2 and 12. Translation passages for discussion in Week 7 and Week 13 are the only ones that count toward this assessment task (25% each).
Task description
Students are required to submit their weekly post-editing assignments in both direction of their language pair (Chinese and English or Japanese and English) between Weeks 2 and 12. They must use Track Changes in Microsoft Word to edit the translation and the Comments function to explain the reason for the changes. Each passage is equivalent to approximately between 250 and 550 English words.
The translation passages for discussion in Week 7 and Week 13 are the only ones that count toward this assessment task (25% each). The post-editing assignments in other weeks will not count for assessment, but are compulsory.
STATEMENT ON AI & MT
Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Translation (MT) are emerging tools that may support students in completing this assessment task. Students may appropriately use AI and/or MT in completing this assessment task. Students must clearly reference any use of AI or MT in each instance. A failure to reference generative AI or MT use may constitute student misconduct under the Student Code of Conduct.

Submit your translation via Turnitin. File name: Week8_TRIN7240_Surname. Each page should have the course code, course title and your name at the top (set up a template).
Deferral or extension
You may be able to apply for an extension.
The maximum extension allowed is 14 days. Extensions are given in multiples of 24 hours.
The maximum extension length ensures that assessors can provide timely feedback, supporting the progressive, sequential, and cumulative nature of language learning that underpins this course.
Late submission
A penalty of 10% of the maximum possible mark will be deducted per 24 hours from time submission is due for up to 7 days. After 7 days, you will receive a mark of 0.

Task description
This is an online, non-invigilated examination. You will be required to edit one passage from Chinese/Japanese into English and one passage from English into Chinese/Japanese. Each passage is equivalent to approximately between 250 and 550 English words.
