Task description

Identify a problem in the workplace.

Identify a problem or opportunity in the workplace where you are undertaking your internship. It could be a system that could be streamlined, a lack of documentation in some aspect of work flow, or an idea for software or equipment that would make things easier for management or employees. Write up a 700-800 word proposal:

* Paragraph 1: a concise statement of the problem or opportunity

* Paragraph 2 & 3: your ideas for resolving it

* Paragraph 4: any resourcing issues applicable to your solution

Feel free to talk through with your internship provider, but please make sure they know this is a hypothetical only. If they want you to implement the solution, they will let you know.

If a submission does not adhere to the specified word RANGE, the content of the submission must be assessed and the element of non-compliance marked through a separate criterion (rubric), and the assessment marked up to the specified word limit.

This task has been designed to be challenging, authentic and complex. Whilst students may use AI and/or MT technologies, successful completion of assessment in this course will require students to critically engage in specific contexts and tasks for which artificial intelligence will provide only limited support and guidance.

A failure to reference generative AI or MT use may constitute student misconduct under the Student Code of Conduct.

To pass this assessment, students will be required to demonstrate detailed comprehension of their written submission independent of AI and MT tools.

Task description

Write and present a 5 minute presentation and then answer questions related to the presentation.

Your presentation should be split into roughly equal parts:

  • Summarise your case study assessment as submitted in Week 5. Focus on problem to solution.
  • Share further reflection on your case study indicating how that has now evolved. Focus on problem to revised solution.
  • Final reflection on experiences/observation during your internship to date. (These must be fully fleshed out and extended during your final workplace reflection assessment.)
  • Reflect on what you have learned from the internship to date. This may include surprises about working there, inspiration, unexpected lessons, new outcomes, or actions you will implement in the future.

All presentations will be recorded for marking purposes via recording facilities available where the assessment takes place (eg. ECHO360, Zoom, camera device)

Recordings will be retained by the School of Communication and Arts for at least 12 months from the release of the final grade for the course.

Recordings will be stored in a secure manner and will only be accessed by authorised school staff for the purposes of:

  • Moderation of marking;
  • Provision of feedback to the student(s) recorded; and/or
  • Re-marking following a successful re-mark application.

If a submission does not adhere to the specified time, the content of the submission must be assessed and the element of non-compliance marked through a separate criterion (rubric), and the assessment marked up to the specified word limit.

This assessment task is to be completed in-person. The use of generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) or Machine Translation (MT) tools will not be permitted. Any attempted use of AI or MT may constitute student misconduct under the Student Code of Conduct.

Submission guidelines

Present your pitch in-person on the specified date.

Please also upload your written presentation/notes to Turnitin by the specified date and time. You do not need to format or correct grammar - the content is the important part.

Task description

Workplace Reflection

The student will submit a reflective journal of 2,300-2,500 words, based on experiences and observations during their internship:

  • The journal may include up to 1,000 words of sample written material, if such written material was composed by YOU for the internship provider, for example, media releases, blog posts, editorial reports. It may also include editing you completed. This material should be linked to the content in your reflection.

If a submission does not adhere to the specified word RANGE, the content of the submission must be assessed and the element of non-compliance marked through a separate criterion (rubric), and the assessment marked up to the specified word limit.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Translation (MT) are emerging tools that may support students in completing this assessment task. Students may appropriately use AI and/or MT in completing this assessment task. Students must clearly reference any use of AI or MT in each instance.

A failure to reference generative AI or MT use may constitute student misconduct under the Student Code of Conduct.
